The Attest you are human series looks for the humorous, profound and ironic at the point in human evolution where we have to confirm our humanity to machines. The series explores the possible play on the words and multiple interpretations of the request to ‘attest you are human’ as well as the randomness associated with a reverse Turing Test who's method of evaluating humanity is the selection of nine images containing signs, cars, lampposts, shopfronts and bridges.
I saw the the dice as the perfect expression of randomness and quickly came upon the idea of using them to create new entirely abstract works on paper.
Individual works were created with 50 rolls of the dice. The position and result of each roll recorded in pencil, matching results connected and the resulting shapes painted at random. The result is an abstract canvas and record of each act of gamification. Whilst abstract the works have an unlikely similarity to the data visualisations used in computer science.
